Yeah, I got it working eventually. AFAICR, effbot insists that it is impossible to get "--- JPEG support ok" and "IOError: decoder jpeg not available" in the same library, therefore you have two copies on your system. I would make a concerted effort to remove all of your pil versions (and make sure you find two, then install it again). If it says "--- JPEG support ok" then it's working fine and you just need to make sure you're using the right version.
