actually even though you have more then one egg only one is active.
there is no slotting on setuptools yet. you should have the c3 on your
easy-install.pth

I have gcc 4.1.1 but that shouldn't matter either since your error is
in the python code.

I think the problem here is ez_setup I have never use that on Linux.
It may be installing setuptools in a non compatible way.

setuptools is in portage but it's masked

I'll recommend you clean up your system
http://peak.telecommunity.com/DevCenter/EasyInstall#uninstalling-packages

then uninstall your setuptools.

and get the one from portage.

then run the easy_install
http://www.turbogears.org/download/nix.html#easyinstall
