Everything was defined from a single widget with both _javascript_ and css properties filled with the appropriate files in the desired order. Now that I go back this morning to look at the problem again, it's gone away. I hate problems like that. I've also split out the AjaxSingleSelect-specific JS into a separate file, and associated that file with the appropriate Widget. This is (I assume) the correct way to do it.
