A lot of things seem like quite a headache before you understand them. Only some of them stay a headache after you do. Python imports can be kind of confusing, but only because they manage to accomplish a lot under the surface. I really like the module system in Python (second only to common lisp, IMO) but it does seem to be a ways off from what Java does.
