The CheckBoxList currently does not work with a RemoteForm, since each checkbox shares the same name the values overwrite each other instead of appending to a list. There was a discussion about this a little while ago[1] along with a patch to widgets/static/ajax.js that will make it work, but that breaks some other remote operation that I cannot remember right now (I know, great help there, if I remember it I'll let you know). There is also a bug posted for this in trac that you can follow[2] but it looks like the proposed solution requires upgrading to mochikit 1.4, which unless it happened over the weekend, has not been officially released.
