Ok, You may be able to serialize CP threads by setting max_threads (or whatever the option is called) to 1. I've not tried that myself.
From my general experience bug finding, what you need to do now is produce a minimal test case. As a first step, can you reproduce this using controller methods you call directly from your browser (i.e. no AJAX)?
