It certainly is multi-threaded. But one request is usually performed in one 
thread, and all the DB-operations are created inside a tranactional boundary 
and so forth. As long as the DB-operations don't take too long, that's 
perfect  - and the common idiom.

Things get tricky if you want immediate user feedback whilst still performing 
DB-ops in the background.
