I've created such an application in the past months. And from what I can tell
you it is possible and especially pays off if you created one for a
multi-national/cultural company. (BTW, the UNO/UNESCO has more up-to-date
databases with country information than what is implemented as excerpt in TG.)

Keep in mind that there cannot be anything more worse than having no access to
one's ERP if internet connection goes down! Something I've solved through DBMS
replication features and means of distributed systems (-> "global state",
"snapshot algorithms").

But, why should one put effords in programming something with a web-interface if
there is already (mature) software, but without that kind of interface?

I wouldn't call that revolution, but rather evolution as it began more than a
decade ago. And its going in that direction became more obvious, yes. Take
web-based word processors and spreadsheets as example. (INHO, Web-browsers
shouldn't be the new operating systems and they certainly will be replaced...)
