Hi Ben,
I am also a beginner with TG and so chances are we are in a similar
situation. I was also wondering about SA vs. SA + Elixir vs. SO and
Kid vs. Genshi, etc, etc, there are indeed lot of choices. After all I
sticked to the current default which is incidentally the simplest to
use: SO + Identity + Kid for the very reason that probably with this
combo I will run into the least number of esoteric scenarios like the
ones you mentioned: whether using Elixir will mess up the rest of TG.
With the default components everything just worked and I strongly
believe I don't need the sophistication of SA at all but I do need for
example Identity which would take lot of time to write from scratch.
If your application is also not very complex and want something done
fast without the shiniest and coolest libraries I would recommend
using SO + Identity.
And people seem to be very helpful on this list even with the less
cool and older libraries so no worries there, I haven't really heard
the answer you mention ("Oh, dunno, how about trying the trunk?") many
times.
Cheers,
Daniel
