Hi Uwe, While I don't use Apache and have the exact answer, I'm presuming it has support equivalent to what lighttpd provides.
Lighty provides config entries to specify the doc-root for static content and a path to the catch-all error.html (like say a error404.html) file. I use lighty in front of my TG app. When the TG- app is down, this error.html file is displayed.
