That actually worked out very well. The key was just to deliver very detailed specs, and resist the automated responses (easily spotted, actually), which offer the lowest of the lowest prices. So, I got a starter framework of my app all set up for me, for around $250, which included quite a bit of functionality. I would have needed a lot of time to figure out all these things on my own without it.
