This sounds like a great project.  And I would definitely welcome a
GSoC proposal in this area!

I think we should focus on 2 fronts:

1) making repoze.who plugins for a variety of auth providers (openid,
windows auth, ldap, etc)
2) making Authority work with repoze.who, and providing hooks for
secure controllers and a copy of the @require decorator from TG1

I think the bulk of the GSoC project work would be involved in doing
1, and doing it well.  But I think that 2 should be done first so that
TG2 users can start making use of the simple database auth plugin that
Chris created, and Florent has been fixing up.
