My company is developing a number of web-based applications using TurboGears.
We'd like to give our consultants a set of high-level tools for Ajax
development (both browser event handling and Ajax/JSON requests to the server).
I have found a couple of tools which claim to do this:
AppCelerator: http://www.appcelerator.org/screencasts
KSS: http://kssproject.org/
Does anyone have experience using one or both of these tools on a real-world
project? I'd love to hear about your experience. Are there other tools like
this should we consider?
Other things we'd like this tool to do:
- Be easy to extend with our own GUI controls or encapsulating existing
controls from other libraries. AppCelerator mentions having this ability.
(Presumably we'd use JavaScript to create the controls, but the person using
them wouldn't need to.)
- Make server requests that return arbitrary data (typically JSON or XML) and
display it in the GUI
- Translate normal 'form submit' into an Ajax request
