You should definitely use joins,  take a look on this tutorial ( if you are
using sqlobject )

In the docs page are a set very instructive tutorials that use Joins, i make
that examples and they help a lot. ( look too the Introduction to Widgets
one, it's a foobal example that use joins and widgets ).
