Sorry I didn't see this for so long. Yes, the default logging configuration for at least some versions means that if you log.debug you'll get two entries for every logged message within your own code (doesn't apply for code in libraries etc). Can cause significant confusion, I mentioned this a long time ago but never entered a bug report.
