Merged changes from M1 branch into the head stream

I merged the changes from the M1 branch into the main stream This 
includes changes to some of the pom.xml files to generate correct 
manifest files and changes to the readme, license and notice files to 
include them in the generated JARs. The merge process was a little 
complicated so could the people working on the various components please 
check that I didn't mess up or miss anything? Thanks.
