I can help with the Release Documentation. On 9/20/06, kelvin goodson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
An update on SDO Java I have gone through the document given by the release management link in Jeremy's note of 9/15 entitled "Apache release and community guidelines" and made myself a checklist/todo list for Java SDO. Here is a copy of it .... IN PROGRESS qualify the samples to say which are good ones to look at and which are work in progress NOT STARTED It is strong recommended that a project creates it's own release guidelines. IN PROGRESS Check documentation is readable NOT STARTED Check that licenses comply with incubator policy NOT STARTED Check licenses for libraries are distributed together with any applicable NOTICEs IN PROGRESS Check LICENSE and NOTICE files. NOT STARTED Check build instructions exist and that source builds using these instructions NOT STARTED Check license headers are correctly applied NOT STARTED Check compressed distributions unpack correctly NOT STARTED Check for version control files NOT STARTED jar meta-infs should include license and notice files NOT STARTED jars should include a standards compliant manifest NOT STARTED artefacts should include apache in name NOT STARTED produce a tar.gz/bz/bz2 and a zip archive NOT STARTED put release documentation at the root of the archive (if needed elsewhere then include a copy) NOT STARTED include a STATUS document NOT STARTED do legal audit NOT STARTED source distro has easy build instructions NOT STARTED indicate optional and required dependencies NOT STARTED dependencies comply with apache policy NOT STARTED have in place an explicit policy for distributing NOT STARTED take a look at release guides for HTTPD, Jakarta, Struts as example release guides If anyone has any input on any of these please feel free to send it. If you want to keep an eye on how far I have got, I have exposed this todo list as an RSS feed at http://www.airset.com/syndicate/VoWYwSHvNutI/lists.xml and I'll be updating the statuses of things as I go along. Some of the detailed requirements for each item aren't clear to me yet, but that may be because I haven't followed all the links from the apache doc or that the apache doc lacks detail as it is in draft form. I'll try to keep notes of what I do for future ref. Regards, Kelvin. My inclination is to get to the point of having a release candidate soon, and with a fair wind I would hope that would be by the end of the week. I've heard of other projects with separable stand-alone deliverables who post release candidates for a subset of these somewhere public in advance of the coordinated official release. Could we do this for SDO? Then people could try it out and we might be able to move from chill state on the SDO code base a bit earlier than otherwise. I don't know quite where we would post it. We could just append a "rc<N>" postfix to the name until such time as we are all ready to cut the full release. > > Regards, Kelvin. > > > > On 19/09/06, Jeremy Boynes < [EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I'd to checkpoint on where we are for the release, get people's input > > on what they are working on and try and pin down when we think we > > will be in a position to start cutting binaries.
