I agree this would be really useful. I'm a JIRA admin so I think I should be able to set it up, I can find various things related to it in the admin panels, but unfortunately I can't figure out how it all hangs together. I did find some emails in the harmony lists [1] saying Geir set this up for Harmony, so I'll CC him and see if he can tell us how to do it.

I notice from the "filters" link from the jira browse page (i.e. http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/popups/savedfilters.jsp) that projects such as Derby and Geronimo are able to search on whether a patch is pending. This seems to be possible because their search editing panel has a custom field "Patch Available". It would be really helpful if we could switch this behaviour on for Tuscany.
