That would be great, especially for the long term. It's still possible to keep the existing build and just use Maven to deploy the artifacts it generates - I did that once for Derby so if I can help please let me know.
Another option is to ask the Maven folks just to install the version in the repo as it appears someone did with 2.3.6. That would mean updating the poms though.
