Jeremy, thanks for the pointer; I printed that book out a while ago and have used it for getting a basic understanding of Maven, but what I tend to find is that the devil is in the detail, and the book doesn't go that deep. I've been frustrated recently by behaviour that doesn't seem to tally with what detailed documentation I have been able to find, Asking on the maven users' list has not produced any response -- http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/maven-users/200703.mbox/[EMAIL PROTECTED] If anyone has any ideas on the problem I posed there I would be very grateful. Currently I document a manual step in the build process, as I have spent too much time getting nowhere.
