https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TUSCANY-1122 records my finding that some versions of Java 1.4.2 have BigDecimal implementation with the problem that it fails to preserve the value of Long.MAX_VALUE or nearby values. (The buggy implementations that I tested map these values to Long.MIN_VALUE.)
