I don't know what alternatives there are but I'm sure there are many. The (minimal) template I use is here - http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/tuscany/sandbox/slaws/blankcomposite.svg Other than that the process is a manual one of reading the composite file and drawing what you see.
