i got a new MBP from work about half a year ago with leopard 10.5.6
installed, and it came with 2.5.1. (i've been able to build and
install 2.6 and 3.0 without conflicts with apple's version as long as
i modified my setup.py with the correct lib and inc locations, and ran
"make altinstall".)
