Those are both great books to start with, IMHO. You might want to also
check out Beginning Python, which has a number project chapters at the
end that go beyond the traditional toy examples. That might give you
some ideas on how to develop a larger project. And of course, as
recommended by others many times on this list, reading the source code
for an open source project is a great way to learn.
