I took out the pytz egg package and installed from Synaptic (I had looked there originally, but I searched pytz rather than python-tz). I now have an importably pytz.
So that particular issue is cleared up, but what about modules that aren't available in Synaptic? It seems I still have an issue with easy_install, no?
