I don't think there is any other way to automate a map >without python.You are going to have to give us an awful lot more information. What OS and Python version? What technology is your map using? (database, language etc?) Is is a commercial package? Open source? Which one? What architecture does your solution have? (eg client/server, web server? desktop?)
Also what is your experience level in programming in general and Python in particular?
