oh i think it might be the 2nd case of having the wrong version of pip. I do have pip for Python 2 also but both are not on my path so cmd doesn't recognise 'pip' unless used in their python folders. I'll try reinstalling pip. i got it via easy_install so i may have the wrong one there also:(
