I've created a tri-fold handout for Tux Paint
(that is, it's a US Letter sheet, printed in Landscape (11" x 8.5"),
which gets folded into thirds to make a little booklet).
I made it in OpenOffice.org, and then did a "Print to File" and selected PDF.
Unfortunately, that seemed to make PostScript, so I ran "ps2pdf" on the files
to get PDFs. They work well in some viewers, but not in others. >:^(
To describe it briefly:
Cover:
------
Free Software For Kids!
TUX
PAINT
[ brief description ]
[ large Tux penguin ]
Unfold once, on the right you see:
----------------------------------
[ Screenshot of brush-drawn picture ]
Virtual crayons for your computer
(with none of the mess)
[ Screenshot of picture made with stamps ]
Stickers and stamps, as well
Unfold all the way; full sheet broken into three columns:
---------------------------------------------------------
Left Column:
------------

[ Some paragraphs saying it's easy to use ]
[ Paragraphs saying it's free; brief description of Open Source ]
[ Summary paragraph saying, in plain english, it's FREE! Copy it! ]
Middle Column:
--------------
Features
Easy to use
[ bulleted list of examples ]
Kid-Oriented
[ examples ]
Basic Drawing Tools
[ examples ]
Rubber Stamps
[ some categories of stamps available ]
Special Effects
[ examples ]
Right Column:
-------------
Supported Platforms
If you have a computer, chances are you can run Tux Paint on it!
[ Windows, Mac OS X, BeOS, Linux/BSD/Solaris ]
Language Support
[ list of all 26 languages it supports right now ]
Finally,
Back, Center column (back of booklet when folded up):
------------------------------------------------------
We think Tux Paint is great... but don't take _our_ word for it!

Stormonth Elem. School
Vassalboro Comm. School (David Trask :^) )
ArtWorks Visual Art School, New Jersey ]
[ Lots of "X is a trademark of Y", in tiny grey font ;^) ]
Whew!
After creating the initial one, I also created a Spanish version,
with help from Google.com's Language Tools and AltaVista's Babelfish.
I am SURE it could do with some clean-up!!! (Please post corrections and
suggestions!)
PDFs of the english and spanish versions are on my FTP site in a new
directory called "ads":
ftp://ftp.sonic.net/pub/users/nbs/unix/x/tuxpaint/ads/
(WOW! Konqueror downloaded them and made little thumbnails for me in it's
FTP component!!!)
I'm considering putting the OpenOffice.org files into CVS, but I'm not
sure it's "SWX" format is suitable for diff/patching. :^(
(I know it's XML inside, but it's all tar/gzipped up, or something)
Regardless, I'll probably put them up on FTP at some point.
(I'd like to have these available for anyone who wants to hand them out
at LinuxWorld, for example. OFSET, maybe? ;^) )
