Well, in the second revision of my Debian sid/unstable package,
tuxpaint-data 0.9.13-2 has default_font.ttf as a symlink, which I forgot to
do in version 1. Comparing -1 with -2, I see some artefacts disappear.
For example, in version 1, the text "A Blue and Yellow Flag!" seems to be
missing pixels on the right side of the "g". In version 2 this is fixed.

So I believe the current default_font.ttf in CVS needs to be discarded in
favour of symlinking as I have done (except you would symlink to the font
distributed with tuxpaint, whereas I symlink to the font distributed with
ttf-freefont).

Is it possible that default_font.ttf actually contains some useful edits
(perhaps in support of other locales) we have forgotten about and which
haven't been sent upstream to the Freefont project?
