I suggest adding keyboard accelerators, i.e. keyboard shortcuts
that correspond to underlined characters on the tools buttons. For
example, the 'Stamp' tool could have the 'S' underlined, so that
pressing 'Alt + S' (or 'Alt + s') would activate the stamp tool.

This feature make it possible to work with Tux Paint more
efficiently, and helps kids to learn to use keyboard
accelerators (which are used in almost all 'normal'
applications). And there's no harm for people who *doesn't*
know about the feature.

Of course it should be possible to turn off keyboard accelerators
in the config file (the 'noshortcuts=yes' pref. could be reused).
