There are TrueType fonts for both zh_CN and zh_TW in Fedora Core 2.
Both LANG=zh_CN and LANG=zh_TW seems to work fine by creating link as

  zn_cn.ttf ->  /usr/share/fonts/zh_CN/TrueType/gkai00mp.ttf
  zn_tw.ttf ->  /usr/share/fonts/zh_TW/TrueType/bkai00mp.ttf
