We made a change to the way things fall in cascade... (as well as comet zap).
Since the code is the same whether you choose alphabet or a wordlist, the way that we slow down words is to: set maximum_fall_rate = 1.0 (or whatever in playgame.h -- diferent for each level) Then for each word we multiply that speed by 0.9 for each letter that the word is (ok length - 1 really) Then for some varience we multiply that by a random value between 0.5 and 1.0 So fall_rate = max_fall_rate * pow(0.9, strlen(word) - 1) * (random between 0.5 and 1.0) That enabled us to set the speeds for easy/medium/hard to be good for just the alphabet and also to slow down when the words are used! We did a some testing and it seemed to be good, but only time will tell ;) We'll continue to tweak! I spent too long testing it myself before we tested on Kids (and I type too fast ;p ) Jesse -----Original Message----- From: Sam Hart <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Thu, 26 Jun 2003 11:25:28 -0700 (MST) Subject: Re: [Tuxtype-dev] about 1.5.1 How's the speed in 1.5.1? I haven't had time to check CVS yet (been busy as well, and will be out of town starting this weekend for two weeks ;-) so I don't know myself. The biggest complaint I hear about 1.5.x is that it runs /way/ too fast and is too difficult (and I'll admit that the last time I checked it out, key cascade was too hard for me on the easiest setting on my desktop ;-) > there is a exe installer but I haven't updated the webpage to point to it ... > thanks for the reminder :) > > We released while the tux4kids.net server was down so we haven't been able to ask > t4krel to package rpms for us... and been busy since it has came back up... > > Jesse > > -----Original Message----- > From: Sam Hart <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Date: Thu, 26 Jun 2003 08:29:33 -0700 (MST) > Subject: Re: [Tuxtype-dev] Bugs in Autoconf / Automake of Tuxtype2 V1.5.1 > > I have unsubscribed her from the list and directed her to the stable > install of Tux Typing for windows. > > I would have sent her to the 1.5 version, but at present, there is no > simple installer for Windows (and she struck me as someone who would have > problems with a zip file... might be just me ;-) > > > Please unsubscribe me.
