Another one of the iconic broadcasters from my very young childhood. He was probably the first TV newsperson I ever paid attention to because he did the sports on The Big News. He does not sound like them, and only vaguely looked like them, but as a kid I always felt that Gil Stratton somehow bled into Jess Marlow and Tom Brokow (who in my mind actually shared local news anchoring on KNBC), down the dial and later probably than early Stratton but I started listening to them because they reminded me of Statton - so I started watching what I (naively I guess) called the "real" news too. Stratton is also great in Stalag 17.
