If Donz is lurking, he can quote you statistics, but three segments
with a "major" guest is not uncommon. Politically, probably every Bill
Clinton appearance, Obama, Hillary all leap to mind; I'm sure there
were others. I think Bill Murray got three segments last Thursday,
which fits the pattern of a guest who can do two segments of panel and
a short third to show a clip and plug a project. Steve Martin
appearances are usually that way.

And, of course, there was the Warren Zevon show, where the terminally
ill Zevon was the only guest.

Dave has matured over the last 25 years, and he's come to realize that
his guests are, in fact, guests. Not only are they unlikely to come
back if they're abused, but other potential guests might see that
treatment and refuse to come on. Having said that, I thought that Dave
was plenty tough on McCain. He persisted on the Palin questions, he
brought up Liddy in the Ayers context, and generally didn't settle for
a simple answer if he wanted more.

If you wanted to hear "What kind of an idiot would choose such an
empty-headed former beauty pageant runner-up as a running mate?',
you're disappointed. The substance of that question was there, though.
