Well ... I was looking up Rat Pack material for an article that never
ran on Buddy Hackett's son Sandy's Vegas "Rat Pack is Back" tribute
show. Hackett Junior plays Joey Bishop, as suggested by Joey Bishop. (I
would demand a paternity test.)

Among the Pack's high-larry-ous jokes:
Frank Sinatra: Dean, How do you make a fruit cordial?
Dean Martin: "Be nice to him I guess."

Uh huh.

The Advocate has an interview with Denis Leary in which the question is
posed: "You also have a chapter titled 'Matt Dillon Is a Giant Fag.'
What gives you the right to use the f word?"

The answer: "Well, because I also have a chapter called 'We'd Hate You
Even if You Weren't Black." I don't believe in the power of words. My
parents came from Ireland, where the word cunt is literally a word your
mother and father would use to describe the weather or the car: 'That
c*nting car won’t start!' And I come from a Catholic background where
the nuns were always telling you, "Don't do this, don't say this,' so
anytime anyone tells me I shouldn’t say something, my reaction is, 'Why
not?' So when I was writing a book, I wanted to make sure I got all
those words in there."

So to sum up: Leary was intending to be an asshole when using the
pejorative in the name of comedy, while Lewis ... has not been funny
since the movie "The King of Comedy" ... about 25 years ago.

It could be argued that Jerry Lewis says stupid things "accidentally"
like kids with MDA "are half a person" because he likes to his name in
the papers, or that women shouldn't be comedians because he thinks of
them as "producing machines that brings babies in the world."

But I'll give Jerry Lewis the benefit of the doubt since he's pretty
much become Estelle Getty's Sophia Petrillo character. Unable to filter,
and a bitter soulless husk.
