For 18 months, subscribers to Richard Branson-owned Virgin Cable were denied a package of channels from Rupert Murdoch's Sky, most notably the entertainment channel Sky One (where many American series get their first airing) and Sky News, as the two gazillionaires let their egos fly (Branson claimed Murdoch was trying to "strangle at birth" the cable systems he had just acquired from NTL and merged with his Virgin Mobile cell phone business). Virgin had to mollify angry susbscribers who didn't like being cut off from "Lost" and "Battlestar Galactica" mid-stream with deep discounts. Well, Branson and Murdoch decided to play nice and the Sky channels returned to Vrigin yesterday:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/nov/14/tv-ratings The return of Virgin subscribers gave ratings spikes to Sky One's prime time lineup of "Noel's Are You Smarter Than a 10-Year- Old?" (yes, their version of "...5th Grader?", hosted by Noel Edmonds, who also hosts "Deal or No Deal"--there's also a daytime version with Ant and Dec clones Dick and Dom), "Bones" and "Cold Case" (which air months before the terrestrial networks get around to them, if they do at all). --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Like TV only smarter.
