I agree.  I had my annoyance at and dismissal of the movie ready to go
because it did not replicate the look and feel of the original series, but I
didn't need to fire them up.  Maybe it is because I've read DC Comics for 40
plus years, but I can accept cosmetic changes (the toggle-free
bridge, short-sleeve dresses on female crew members, a Korean Sulu rather
than a Japanese Sulu.) much easier these days.  All I ask is that
the personalities of the characters remain consistent.  Everything else is
window dressing.
