Didn't answer this one, so I'll try. The show has used 24-hour and even 36-hour
pit stops when needed for production reasons, although the 36-hour ones are
only known when dated items are visible or racers mention it afterward.

Wikipedians claim five such extended pit stops on season 4
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Race_4 (See notable Race events
section)

They also cite that racers were held mid-leg when production credit card
problems delayed one team from an international flight.

Likewise from TARflies fan site:
"Why don't we see more time-stamps? Why don't we get to see when teams check in?

Well, our guess is that knowing exactly how much time separates two
teams would sometimes ruin the suspense of the episode. In addition,
remember that many time credits and penalties are given to the teams
between episodes. If the editors showed when each team checked in at
each pit stop as well as the check-out times, they would have to
explain the reason for every time adjustment."

So, reading that there were filming hour restrictions on the Moscow
subways and seeing that exact departure times were not displayed, I
won't even be surprised to hear there were multiple production adjustments or
the that the pit stop hours were adjusted
off a multiple of 12 to meet production demands; and they hoped we
would not notice....

Anybody have any information on why there was (apparently) a 24-hour rest
period between legs? I imagine it's because none of the tasks could be
performed in the middle of the night, so everybody got a break, and it would
have been awkward to explain -- Am I close?
