I think I have pretty much resisted the periodic temptations to engage
in OJ talk on this channel over the years - mostly because I know from
experience how excruciating and interminable those discussions can be.
For the record though, I will dispute on this day Kevin's assertion
that everyone knows OJ skated on the murder charges. I can validly
dispute that because I do not know he skated, and so at minimum it
would have to be everyone - 1.

The Simpson case illustrated the weaknesses, but also the strength of
the US criminal justice system. Despite the media circus and
overlapping cults of celebrity, the outcomes of both the criminal and
civil trial were reasonable and justified by the evidence presented in
court. Had the LAPD and LA DAs each done their jobs better a guilty
verdict in the criminal trial would have been likely, but given the
case presented in court, the criminal jury returned a fair verdict,
and I don't think the result can be described as OJ skating.

Having said that, the Vegas sentence is overly harsh. On the list of
injustices in the American criminal justice system it does not crack
the top 500, so I too will not be shedding many tears, but this is not
the way to fix the problems that people have with the previous Simpson
murder case. I always think that if even a tenth of the energy that
Americans have wasted bitching about OJ getting away with murder was
invested in fixing the systematic problems in big city police and
county prosecutors offices we would all be a lot better off.
