As of today, my little corner of Manhattan has caught up with Kansas City. Time
Warner has activated a major rollout of HD channels (the extended
HBO/Showtime/etc. lines, USA, Sci Fi, IFC, Bravo, dozens more).

But will this mean that we're actually receiving HD signals on all of these? I
wonder, because I noticed last night that TNT-HD continues to show "Bones"
reruns in distorted-to-fill-the-screen SD. Is there a clause in the syndication
contract that says TNT is restricted to the SD version? And do we know that all
shows even offer HD? "Battlestar Galactica" I know does, but what of the
current USA series? (I might ask about "Inside the Actors Studio," but the idea
of James Lipton in HD frightens me.)

jd, wondering if the world really needs the Weather Channel in HD
