"Coronation Street," the 48-years-and-counting soap that is an
institution in the UK, makes its biggest appearance in the U.S. this
week as Amazon On Demand starts offering streams of eps from the last
15 months to computers at 50 cents a pop:

The series appeared on some public TV stations in the 70s, but like
almost every other UK or Aussie soap, did not have any success over
here (meanwhile, "Corrie" is a mainstay of the early-evening lineup on
the CBC in Canada).
