In a reaction to the competition (and realization that both shows
aren't going anywhere anytime soon), for the first time in its history
Monday night "Nightline" ended by doing a toss to "Jimmy Kimmel Live":

Despite Ted Koppel's departure and all of the format changes,
"Nightline" remains competitive (and often beats Jay and Dave when big
news breaks) and Kimmel perhaps realizes that being on a half-hour
after the other guys may be more of a help (although he would love it
if WLS in Chicago aired him at 11:05 p.m. CT instead of rerunning
Oprah).
