COUPLE THINGS .... --- Pepper Joplin Heald, my 13 year old Shi Tzu, has perhaps a day at best says the veterinarian. "Don't even bother feeding him." "We've done all that's medically possible." Holding and brushing Pepper only does so much. He's barking because of pain that's hard to nail down. Some of it is his difficulty moving, a lot internal. At least the growing death howls let us know he's still alive. Even though one can't help but just wish he could be out of pain -- the family has decided against induced "sleep" -- which prolongs the pain and sorrow for us. I've been brushing and petting him and occasionally trying to interest him in water. Can't tell whether I'm helping or annoying the dog -- who's starving to death, and bleeding from his spleen, anemic, and having his red blood cells eaten by his immune system Most communication is a barking whether he moves or tries to get up ... and a pained one at that, but at least we know he's alive (sort of.) At the moment it's a cross between a smoke detector and a barking seal. And I'm on jury duty in 24 hours, so that should be fun. Neither the dog or I can sleep. Though if no barking for an hour, I worry. So he can't eat or breathe and seems to have some manner of canine AIDS, at least in some kind of completely compromised immune system. It was suggested a few days ago, he might have eaten a poison. So we've no idea whether he licked his paws and ingested some of the melted road de-icer or swallowed a dropped pill for one of the family ailments. So that's a compounding freakout on top of everything else. I've started a playlist (I guess in tribute?) at http://blip.fm/tomalhe --- As to known events, the head shaving has taken place for the St. Baldrick's day foundation. And I'm currently about 1/3 toward my target goal of raising money for children's cancer research. Visit http://snipurl.com/shavetom2009 to see the difference, and consider contributing to the cause, even if it's $5. Make my day. All of which is to say ... no trivia question today. --- 8 p.m. HAPPY SAINT PARTY'S DAY Three dozen kids from the projects with "A BRONX DREAM" (Showtime) learn how to riverdance and they visit Ireland. Ah, remember when arts programs had funding? "NCIS" (CBS) holds a requiem for a heavyweight. "REAPER" (CW) holds a requiem for a lightweight. "AMERICAN IDOL SINGS COUNTRY MUSIC YOU HATE" (Fox) with Randy Travis. Somehow the kids will still figure out a way to perform something by either Donny Hathaway or Stevie Wonder. "DANCING WITH THE STARS" (ABC) The Tuesday edition has its premiere with a recap of the season’s first two episodes. A plot dictated blind "MENTALIST" (CBS) faces off against a cat who can predict death. 9 p.m. You might think a special titled "I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS PREGNANT" (Discovery Health) which recreates the laborings of women who didn't think they were expecting until they gave birth would be bad enough. But ... it's a SERIES. It's like the antidote to Octomom --- I didn't want to know you were pregnant! Are they burning off "TRUST ME" (TNT)? A pair of episodes involve a new energy drink and an old ad team partner. 10 p.m. Iranian groom + American bride = "ARUSI PERSIAN WEDDING" (PBS), sadly not costarring Ben Stiller and Robert DeNiro. SWEEPSPLOITATION GUEST STAR PATROL * Vanessa Marcil guests as a juror on "WITHOUT A TRACE" (CBS) involving the tribulations of a trial consultant. * Carol Burnett plays a former Rockette turned strip joint manager on "LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT" (NBC). Hope she's hired a good janitor. Once I had a love and it was a gas. Soon turned out had a "PHILIP GLASS" (Ovation). 11 p.m. TELE-GEBRA "Robot Chicken" + "Mad TV" + "Family Guy" = "MODERN TOSS" (IFC) TALK TALK * "The Daily Show" crowns Ian McShane * "The Colbert Report" knights David Grann * Tavis swings with EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and Bobby Womack. * Dave us duped by Julia Roberts, and Bell X1 * Jay breaks the show with Portia de Rossi, D.L. Hughley, and Soundtrack of Our Lives * Craig looks over a three leaf clover with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the Dropkick Murphys. * Jimmy Fallon loves Bill Paxton, Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, and the Ting Tings. --- QUESTIONABLE ANSWERS What other award was won by "WKRP's" Les Nessman? Alongside the Buckeye Newshawk and Silver Sow prizes he also took home the Copper Cob. --- CORRECTION: Our story on AIG being AOK was incorrect. They are actually SOBs. We regret the error. --- But the conversation has just begun, add your own suggestions or discuss mine on the "TV or Not TV" Google list or at tvornottv.net.
