Odd sitch during the 12:35 AM talk show slot this week. Both of Craig Ferguson's cold opens have featured unexpected cameos by sit-com icons: Kathy Kinney - Craig's former fellow cast-member from "The Drew Carey Show" - in her Mimi Bobeck drag on Monday, and Marion Ross - the mom, Mrs. Cunningham, from "Happy Days" - on Tuesday. If I know C- Ferg, I presume that another comparable character will show up tonight. Jimmy Fallon's snorefest on Monday was briefly enlivened by an unannounced Rob Schneider caught in the middle of singing the vintage Elvis hit "Little Sister" with the Roots as the show came back from its first commercial break. Other than Jimmy plugging Schneider's new DVD "Big Stan" when the abbreviated song ended, that was that.
Craig has his stable of unbilled drop-in guests doing sketchy stuff at the desk - Dave Foley, Henry Winkler (a "Happy Days" connection?), Betty White, etc. But the Kinney and Ross appearances were different, as in unscripted. As for Fallon, I guess it's a case of whatever they can cobble together into the semblance of a show. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV .... Smart (TV) People on Ice!
