If this was the late '80s no way Duchovny would be a first guest. Twin Peaks didn't air until 1990 and Duchovny didn't appear in that until late in the run. X-Files didn't start until Fall 1993 and Dave was starting the Late Show with more established stars. Since Donz hasn't been posting here, I put a request in to him on afl.
