If that were true, it wouldn't necessarily be such a bad thing. If you look back at the 8 series, most of the better (or, at least, more memorable) episodes came out of the era when the per-episode budget was probably £100 and a packet of crisps. A shoestring budget actually helps a show like Red Dwarf.
