The functionality already exists and has existed for some time now. A broadcaster can specify a bit of text to identify the channel and the current show (or whatever they want) which is embedded in the broadcast. Most televisions use this to tell you what you are watching when you change channels. However, no DVR that I'm aware of uses that information to check and see if they are recording the correct show or not.
