Calling Spiral "better than The Wire" is a pretty pointless comparison as this is crime/legal thriller. I think it's purely the case that every drama has to be compared to The Wire by law at the moment in Britain. Spiral's an exceptional series however, and I'm really looking forward to the second series (this series was first shown in 2007 in the UK).
It's pretty rare that we see non-English language TV in the UK, but this really is worth getting on DVD - although I can't see it in Amazon.ca. Time to buy the region-free DVD player and import the UK version perhaps? BTW - if you're thinking of seeing the new movie State of Play, but haven't seen the original, I can't recommend it enough. I just re-watched all six hours over the weekend in advance of the movie.
