This concerns tonight's CSI, so some spoiler space, just in case.

The episode does a crappy murder mystery version of "Galaxy Quest," throwing in
a bit of the hoo-hah about updating Battlestar Galactica for a bit of 'edge'
(Ron Moore even cameos). Tim Allen and company did it so much better.

My question revolves around a possible issue of credit. Instead of leaving
things to homage, the CSI brain trust took scenes from two Star Trek episodes,
put a thesaurus to the lines, changed the names and costumes. I have to
believe some kind of credit is due the writers of those episodes (or their
estates). Otherwise you have the equivalent of those music plagiarism cases
where the songs sound mysteriously similar, but the copying was supposedly
unintentional. Given that each of the credited writers worked on a Star Trek
spinoff, not sure how well that defense would fly.
