The TV show probably was that lucrative. I don't know if he owned the
rights to his shows and if he did there's a ton of money there.It
looks like he lives modestly, so relatively small earnings over the
decades could be millions now. He also has a number of books in print.
There might also have been appearance fees over the years. I've
stopped being surprised when I see that someone who is a marginal
figure in pop culture (not Ebert, just in general) has made a huge
fortune.
